Welcome to "Mentaiko Park Oarai"! This is a specialized theme park for mentaiko, operated by Kanefuku, a well-known mentaiko manufacturer in Japan.
Currently, there are several Mentaiko Parks across the country, but the very first one was established here in Oarai.
It's a place that everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy and will want to visit again and again.
Mentaiko Factory Tour and Experience Corner
At Mentaiko Park, you can actually observe the process of making mentaiko (spicy cod roe). Parts of the manufacturing process are on display, and watching the careful, hands-on work is truly captivating. In addition to the observation area, there is an exhibition section featuring the pollock used for mentaiko, as well as a quiz and game corner where you can have fun with touch panels. There's also a kids' space with a slide, making it a popular spot for families with children.
The adorable red characters at Menta Park are named "Tarapiyo" and "Dr. Tarakon." You can find various merchandise, including keychains, featuring them. There are also several photo spots, so why not take a picture with Tarapiyo and friends?

Jumbo Rice Balls at the Food Corner
First, we recommend starting at the tasting corner right at the entrance, where you can sample freshly made mentaiko (spicy cod roe). The non-frozen, just-marinated karashi mentaiko is truly exceptional. In the food corner, you can find jumbo rice balls generously filled with this fresh mentaiko. These large rice balls, packed with mentaiko, are a must-try for any mentaiko lover!
Crane Games and Shops
Inside the facility, there is also a crane game corner! The prizes include mentaiko-flavored potato chips, mentaiko French rusk, and original merchandise. These items are not available for sale in the regular shop, so be sure to give it a try! In the mentaiko corner, you can find processed products made with Kanefuku's famous mentaiko. After making your purchase at the register, you can even have your items shipped directly to you. From classic options like salmon mentaiko and squid mentaiko to convenient everyday products like mentaiko furikake and mayonnaise, there's a variety of items to choose from!
Mentaiko Park Oarai offers free admission and does not require reservations, making it an easy stop during your travels. With its indoor facilities, you can enjoy your visit even on rainy days or when the weather isn't great.
