This article covers strategies for dealing with traffic jams and parking, but for information on the expected peak blooming period in 2026, current bloom status, recommended clothing and items to bring, and how to navigate the park, please refer to “ Hitachi Seaside Park Nemophila 2026 Complete Guide | Peak Blooming Period, Clothing, and Park Navigation .” Be sure to check it out.
Why Relying on Your Car Navigation System Will Get You Stuck in Traffic
* If you want to avoid traffic jams entirely, we recommend staying overnight the night before ( →Nemophila 13 Recommended Accommodations for Overnight Stays ). The following tips are for those driving there on the day of the visit.
Many car navigation systems will direct you to the "Hitachinaka IC," but you should absolutely avoid this during the Golden Week period.
National Route 245, which leads to the park’s main entrance, becomes severely congested for several kilometers, and it’s not uncommon to spend 1–2 hours just getting into the parking lot. This will ruin the whole point of getting up early.
Traffic Avoidance Route 1: "Hitachinaka Port IC" (via the North Kanto Expressway)

To avoid traffic jams, using the Hitachi-Naka Port IC is the best choice.
Route Guide
- Exit at "Hitachinaka Port IC" on the Joban Expressway
- Take the exit marked “Ajigaura・Toward Oarai (Prefectural Route 6)” (toward the left)
- If the Kaihin-guchi Parking Lot is available, enter it
- If the Kaihin-guchi Parking Lot is full, head for the West Parking Lot
This route allows you to completely avoid the traffic jam ahead and arrive at the parking lot smoothly. Although the distance is slightly longer, it will definitely save you time.
Traffic Avoidance Route 2: "Hitachi Minami-Ota IC" or "Tokai Smart IC" (via the Joban Expressway)

If you are coming from the north on the Joban Expressway (from the Hitachi/Iwaki direction), we recommend exiting at Hitachi Minami-Ota IC or Tokai Smart IC.
Route Guide
- Exit at "Hitachi Minami-Ota IC" or "Tokai Smart IC" on the Joban Expressway
- Head south on National Route 245 toward the park
- Head toward the West Parking Lot
This route allows you to access the park from the north side, avoiding traffic congestion around the Hitachinaka IC. It is especially recommended for those coming from the Fukushima and Hitachi areas.
Note: The Tokai Smart IC is ETC-only. It is accessible only to standard cars, light vehicles, and motorcycles; medium-sized, large, and extra-large vehicles cannot use this exit.
The "West Parking Lot" is the best choice
While there are several parking lots at the park, the West Parking Lot is the best choice when considering both access to Miharashi Hill (the hill marked Nemophila) and parking capacity.
Parking Fee: Standard Vehicles 600 yen/day
Since the Kaigami-guchi Parking Lot has limited spaces, unless you can arrive before 7:00 AM, aim for the West Parking Lot. The West Parking Lot usually still has plenty of space even in the 8:00 AM hour.
If you ’re traveling with small children or pets, you’ll likely have a lot of luggage, and a long drive early in the morning can be tough. It’s safer to stay overnight and leave early in the morning.

What We Can Learn from the 2025 Data
Sundays Are the Most Crowded
In 2025, April 27 (Sun), May 4 (Sun), and May 5 (Mon, Holiday) were extremely crowded, requiring the opening of the 4th Temporary Parking Lot. Simply avoiding Sundays can significantly reduce congestion.
Weekdays are Surprisingly Empty
On April 28 (Mon) and May 1 (Thu), all parking lots remained empty throughout the day. Even during Golden Week, if you aim for weekdays, you can park without any stress.
Main parking lots fill up by 9:30 AM
On extremely busy days, the South Parking Lot and the Kaihin-guchi Parking Lot are full by 9:30 AM. If you arrive in time for the early morning opening (7:30 AM), there will still be plenty of space.
The West Parking Lot is the easiest to get into until the very end
The West Parking Lot, with a capacity of 2,700 vehicles, remained available later than the other lots. If you’re unsure, aim for the West Parking Lot.
Temporary parking lots close in the afternoon
From around 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, temporary parking lots will gradually stop accepting vehicles. If you plan to visit in the afternoon, head to the West Parking Lot.
Official Crowd Forecast for 2026

- Heavy crowds begin on April 18–19 (the weekend of full bloom)
- Heavy crowds are also expected from April 25–27 (Fri–Sun) before Golden Week
- The best time to visit is on weekdays from April 10 (Fri) to 17 (Fri): The cherry blossoms will be about 70% in bloom, with "moderate" crowds
- In 2025, parking lots reached capacity in late April, but in 2026, crowds are expected to start from the weekend in mid-April
Check the official social media accounts for real-time parking updates
The Hitachi Seaside Park Parking Lot [Official] (@HitachiKaihin_P) updates parking availability information during peak times at lots like Nemophila and Kochia.
If the lot is full, use the temporary parking lot
During peak seasons, temporary parking lots are set up outside the park. Free shuttle buses operate, so it’s no problem even if they’re a bit far away.
Check the park’s opening hours
Regular opening hours are 9:30 AM, but during the peak season for Nemophila, the park opens early, typically allowing entry from 7:00 or 7:30 AM.
In 2026, weekends in mid-April are also expected to be crowded. If you plan to visit on April 11–12 (Saturday and Sunday), we recommend arriving at the West Parking Lot before 8:30 AM. For weekends starting April 18, arriving between 6:30 and 7:00 AM to coincide with the early morning opening is best.
Benefits of Entering at 7:00 AM
- You can take photos when there are almost no other visitors
- You can park smoothly
- The blue of Nemophila looks most beautiful in the soft morning light
- You can leave the park around 10:00 AM and head home before traffic gets heavy
Be sure to check the official Hitachi Seaside Park website for detailed opening hours.
The parking lot opens 30 minutes before the park opens. Aim to arrive 30 minutes before opening time.
If you want to avoid traffic jams altogether, staying overnight beforehand is your best bet . If you stay at a hotel near the park, you’ll have plenty of time to arrive at the West Parking Lot 30 minutes before opening. Check out our “13 Recommended Accommodations for Staying Overnight Before Visiting Nemophila” (comparing by area) to find a place that’s convenient for entering the park first thing in the morning.
Avoid traffic jams on the way home! How to choose your departure time
Since most visitors follow the pattern of “entering in the morning → staying until after noon,” the parking lot exits are extremely crowded between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. If you try to leave during this time, it can take over 30 minutes just to get out of the parking lot.
Recommended Departure Plan
Morning Departure Plan: Enter at 7:00 AM → Leave at 10:30 AM (Nemophila Intensive Plan)
- Take photos in the soft early morning light

Full-Day Enjoyment Type: 9:00 AM Entry → 4:30 PM Exit (Enjoy other flowers and attractions)
